Both teams had opportunities to take the lead in the first half of the game, but it was North Bay who took the advantage. Number 19, Petralia, slid the ball thru the Storm defense, leaving Alessia Longato 1v1 with the Storm Goalkeeper. Longato finished the play by slotting the ball into the bottom left-hand side of the net, giving the Bay the lead on the 19th minute.
Although the Storm produced many chances shortly after, they were caught on their heels after their counter attack was intercepted. This awarded the Bay offense the chance to loft the ball over the top of the Storm back line. Despite a shout for offside, Lauren Battung continued her run and sent the ball into the back of the net.
Just before the whistle blew for first half, the Storm was awarded with a free kick after being taken down by the Bay defense outside the penalty area. Irish National Player, Fiona O’Sullivan composed herself, and struck with ball with both force and accuracy. The ball dipped over the heads of the wall and shook the top right hand corner of the net, giving the Storm a goal right before half time.
With a small lead, the second half was full of determination and desire from the Storm. After continuous battles, the Storm were once again awarded with a free kick on the right hand side of the field on the 65th minute. Tracy Hamm delivered a high ball into the penalty area where Jennefier Cudjoe managed to head the ball down towards the goal, leaving Center Back, Alice Broadbent to strike the ball past North Bay goalkeeper, Jessica Ingram.
After the equalizer, Zoe Zyta, Storm goalkeeper made an excellent save from a North Bay long-range effort. Both teams saw more chances but were unable to find the net for a third time.
Despite two tough results for the Storm last weekend, they will be looking to find the win against Premier De Mayo at Bonney Field on June 18th with a 4:00pm KO. Tickets will be available on the gate.
