California Storm came out the gate and applied heavy pressure on the visitors but the Players' defense showed resilience and patience. In the 30th minute of first half, Storm's, Sissi, sent a corner kick into the box which caused a scramble between Sydney Schultz and 5 defenders. Schultz was able to break through the cluster and hit back of the net giving the Storm 1-0 lead. This goal would not be the last, but proved to the be game winner.
The second half, the California Storm picked back up where they left off. The players peppered the goal and were eventually able to capitalize on a Mackenzie George negative pass to Haley Hughes on the far post who put it in the goal giving the team a 2-0 lead. Shortly after that, midfielder Andi Damien, took a ball down the left side of the field, crossing it into the middle. The ball redirected off of a defender and slipped past the goalkeeper.
In addition to the dominant of offense, the defense was rock solid and did not allow Players FC North any shots the entire 90 minutes of play. Defensive credit goes to Sabrina Williamson, Haylee Degrood, Devlyn Jeter, and Mikayla Reed. The Storm will be back in action this Sunday at 4pm at San Rafael High School to take on Marin FC.
