Sacramento, Calif. - Storm is currently preparing for the WPSL 2015 season and has hosted a string of open practices and tryouts, including scrimmages against local elite club San Juan Soccer Club. The Sacramento team is looking to fill the open spots on the team from players who will not be returning for the 2015 season. Storm hopes to repeat last year’s regular season performance and reach the Western playoffs as Pac-North Champion once again.
Cal suffered disappointment in the NCAA Division One playoffs after a strong season. Cal finished in fifth place in the Pac-12 conference, and the Bears fought their way out of regionals to reach the NCAA Tournament. In the tournament, Cal fell 3-1 to No. 2 seed and eventual NCAA D1 Champion Florida.
Storm has ties to Cal, as many players have worn the Storm kit throughout the years. Current Cal athletes that have played with Storm are Kory Lamet, Kelsie Dickerson, and Sandra Ley. Many more have shown interest in joining the team this summer, and the scrimmage will serve as a scouting exercise as well.
Storm is also accepting serious players to field in the game as trialists. The team is especially looking for goalkeepers. If you are interested, please fill out the new player form and send it to email@example.com ASAP. You may also contact Jerry Zanelli or Carrie Murphy.
The game will be played at Cal Berkeley (NOT at the main stadium) this Saturday, March 7. Kickoff is at 3PM.
Directions to venue: Exit on University Avenue. Continue on University Avenue until you reach Sacramento Street. Turn right on Sacramento Street and continue to Dwight Way. Turn left and continue to end of the road. The venue will be on your right.
