SACRAMENTO, CA – The Storm make it their third consecutive victory against the returning, Tottenham Hotspurs Ladies with a 3-0 win for the home side.
During their last meet, the Storm placed 4 goals against the Spurs. As the visiting Spurs ladies hoped to gain revenge, they were unable to find the back of the net against the unstoppable Storm team.
The Storms impressive line-up included retired National Player Brandi Chastain. Having first played for California Storm in 1989 and being a part of Storms National Championship teams, Brandi is an admirable player and role model for the Storm. She continues to perform so effortlessly with her mass of talent, experience and charisma.
“Brandi is one of the reasons that I enjoy coaching the Storm, she has been a terrific player and sound supporter throughout the years.” said Jerry Zanelli, California Storm head coach.
The Storm found a way to break the score line on the 16th minute through Storm’s leading goal scorer, Sherifatu Sumalia. Lauren Curtin assisted the play with a delightful through ball past the Spurs defence to the magic feet of Sumalia.
As the score line stayed 1-0 as the whistle blew for half time, the Storm team returned for the second half after a strategical half time talk that was put into place in just under one minute in the final 45 minutes.
Sherifatu struck again! Making it a total of five goals past the Spurs side in both appearances, she made it 2-0 for her team after a progression of quick passes that were finalized with a neat pass from Teresa Noyola before a 1v1 with the Spurs goal keeper.
The Storm team were able to hold onto the ball and create numerous entertaining plays. On the 81st minute, player of the game, Cara Curtin, finessed the ball in a skilful play, weaving through the Spurs players until meeting the eyes of the goal keeper in the 6-yard box, she placed the ball in left corner of the net and celebrated while the crowd applauded her brilliance.
Storm Goal keeper, Caitlyn Duval saw her third shut-out alongside her sturdy defence, making some spectacular saves, blocks and tackles.
Next weekend, the Storm will compete in a double-header weekend.
On Saturday June 11, 7:00pm K.O at Elk Grove High School, the Storm take on San Ramon.
On Sunday, June 12, 5:00pm K.O, the Storm travel to Tam High School to play North Bay FC Wave.
